About Livestock Units (LU): The LU system is a standard UK and EU method for comparing the grazing impact of different livestock types. Conversion factors used: cattle 1.0 LU, pigs 0.3 LU, sheep 0.15 LU, chickens 0.014 LU, rabbits 0.02 LU. Recommended stocking rates are general guidelines — actual carrying capacity depends on rainfall, soil type, management, and the time of year. Always monitor pasture condition and adjust accordingly.
